Photographer Captures Magical Beauty of Looking Up in the Middle of a Forest

Italian photographer Manuelo Bececco captures the quiet beauty of the forest in his stunning landscape imagery. Inspired by the setting, Bececco uses nature as his canvas, allowing the light and color of the environment to inform his work. The results are photographs filled with a hint of mystery and awe that draw viewers into a magical world right here on Earth.

Bececco, who also dabbles in travel and wedding photography, began his foray into landscape photography by capturing more conventional images of mountains and open pastures. Over time, his style evolved, as he found himself enchanted with the creative opportunities of wooded environments. Trees are the true protagonists of his photos. Bececco uses different angles to glorify their colorful leaves, the textures of their bark, and the curves of their trunks.

“In the middle of the woods, I seem to see everything in my own way—giant trees or branches that form barriers, irises of the eyes,” Bececco tells My Modern Met. “These are things that I only see in my mind and that I can sometimes turn into photographs.”

Photographed across different seasons and different times of day, the forest’s changing ambiance is expertly harnessed by Bececco. The Italian photographer is able to use the light, and the mood it generates, to his advantage and capture a mystical moment in the quiet of the woods. This forest photography is deeply personal for Bececco, as each photograph is inspired by an important time in his life. And for him, it’s been a pleasant surprise to see how well it’s been received by the public.

“It was a surprise to see that on social media or in the various international competitions my photos were very well received because it is a very personal work,” he shares. “It is not like going to a location and photographing that mountain that has been there for thousands of years and that many photographers have photographed. In this type of photography, at least for me, the mood is very important and when I can convey my feelings to people, I am really happy and excited.”
Manuelo Bececco’s photos of the forest are a striking look at nature’s quiet beauty.
